What Is Epitalon (Epithalon)?

Epitalon, also spelled Epithalon, is a synthetic tetrapeptide composed of alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, and glycine (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly). It was developed in connection with research on peptide components associated with the pineal gland.

Laboratory research has examined Epitalon in relation to cellular aging, telomerase activity, telomere biology, melatonin signaling, and circadian rhythms. Much of this work consists of cell, animal, or limited human research and does not establish broad clinical benefits.

Epitalon is not an FDA-approved drug. FDA has stated that available safety information is insufficient to determine whether Epitalon would cause harm when administered to humans and has identified potential immunogenicity and peptide-impurity concerns for certain compounded routes.

What Has Epitalon Been Studied For?

Published research has explored Epitalon’s effects on telomerase activity and telomere length in cultured human cells. More recent laboratory work has also examined how different normal and cancer cell lines respond to Epitalon.

Other experimental studies have investigated pineal signaling, melatonin production, circadian biology, gene expression, and age-associated cellular processes. Some publications discuss human observations, but the overall clinical evidence base remains limited and difficult to generalize.

Findings from cell cultures or animal models should not be interpreted as proof that Epitalon prevents aging, extends human lifespan, or treats sleep disorders or other medical conditions.

Epitalon: Current Regulatory & Compounding Status

Epitalon is not an FDA-approved drug. FDA has reviewed Epitalon-related bulk drug substances in the compounding context and has stated that available information is insufficient to determine whether administration would cause harm. FDA has also identified potential immunogenicity concerns for certain routes because of aggregation and peptide-related impurities.
