NAD+
Explore NAD+, including its essential role in cellular energy and enzyme activity, published human research, prescription-compounding considerations, and non-prescription support pathways.
What Is NAD+?
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+, is a naturally occurring coenzyme found in every living cell. Although it is included in Freedom's Peptide Library because patients frequently encounter it alongside peptide therapies, NAD+ is not itself a peptide.
NAD+ participates in cellular energy metabolism, oxidation-reduction reactions, DNA-repair signaling, and the activity of enzymes including sirtuins and PARPs. Its levels and metabolism vary by tissue, age, health status, and nutritional state.
Interest in NAD+ has led to prescription preparations and commercially available precursor supplements. These pathways are different: route, formulation, evidence, oversight, and patient suitability should each be considered separately.
What Has NAD+ Been Studied For?
Research on NAD+ metabolism spans cellular energy production, mitochondrial function, DNA-repair pathways, metabolic health, aging biology, and neurologic and cardiovascular systems. Scientists have also studied whether NAD+ precursor compounds can change NAD-related biomarkers in humans.
The evidence varies substantially by ingredient and route. Human trials of oral precursors such as nicotinamide riboside or nicotinamide mononucleotide cannot automatically establish the effects of intravenous or other prescription NAD+ preparations.
Changes in a laboratory biomarker do not by themselves prove improvement in symptoms, disease outcomes, longevity, or athletic performance. Patients should evaluate specific claims against the formulation and quality of the supporting clinical evidence.
NAD+: Prescription, Compounding & Product Status
NAD+ is not FDA approved as a treatment for general wellness, anti-aging, fatigue, or other broadly marketed uses. Compounded NAD+ preparations are not FDA-approved and are not reviewed by FDA for safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing quality before dispensing.
A patient-specific compounded preparation requires a valid prescription and must satisfy current federal and state requirements. A prescriber should determine whether the proposed route and formulation are appropriate for the identified patient.
Dietary supplements containing NAD+ precursors are regulated differently from prescription drugs. Their labeling, ingredients, doses, and evidence should be evaluated separately from compounded NAD+ preparations.

NAD+ Frequently Asked Questions
Is NAD+ a peptide?
No. NAD+ is a naturally occurring coenzyme, not a peptide. It is included in this Library because it is frequently discussed alongside peptide and metabolic therapies.
Can Freedom compound NAD+?
No. Freedom Compounding Pharmacy does not currently prepareFreedom can review current patient-specific NAD+ compounding options with licensed prescribers. Availability, formulation, route, and eligibility depend on current requirements and the individual prescription.compounded BPC-157 prescriptions.
Does NAD+ require a prescription?
A compounded NAD+ drug preparation requires a valid patient-specific prescription. Commercial dietary supplements containing NAD+ precursors are a separate non-prescription category.
What does NAD+ do in the body?
NAD+ functions as a coenzyme in cellular energy metabolism and participates in oxidation-reduction reactions and enzyme systems involved in cellular signaling and DNA repair.
Is there human research on NAD+ support?
Yes, but evidence differs by ingredient and route. Human studies of oral precursors cannot be assumed to prove the effects of intravenous or other compounded NAD+ preparations.
Are NAD+ supplements the same as compounded NAD+?
No. Commercially manufactured consumer products are distinct from patient-specific compounded prescriNo. Dietary supplements and compounded prescription drugs differ in ingredients, route, intended use, oversight, and evidence. They should be evaluated separately.tion medications.
Does Freedom sell research-use-only NAD+?
No. Freedom Compounding Pharmacy does not sell peptides labeNo. Freedom Compounding Pharmacy serves patients and licensed healthcare providers and does not sell research-use-only products.ed or intended for research use only.
